If you are procrastinating, then it’s time to get out of the time-wasting slump! Rather than getting nothing accomplished because you are over-stressed or another reason, you can start to take action. Here are tips on how to stop procrastinating.
Tips on How to Stop Procrastinating
Make a List of To-Dos
Begin by writing down what it is that you have to do. Make it in list form and include both the things you have been avoiding and what you know you will be doing anyway. List everything, from big to small items.
Set time-frames for the tasks, such as one hour or three weeks, depending on its size. Then rank the items according to priority, so you do the most important ones first.
Break Down Big Tasks
Take the big items on your list and break them down into manageable steps to keep them from feeling overwhelming. Once you start to do a few of the tasks, you will feel motivated and more likely to continue to the end of the project.
Make Yourself a Bargain
Tell yourself that if you get a specific task done now, such as editing your resume, then you can meet your friends for dinner afterward. Hold yourself to the bargain and tell yourself that if you don’t then a consequence will occur. For example, if you don’t edit your resume today then you won’t be able to watch TV for 24 hours.
Tell People about Your Goals
When you make your intentions public, it keeps you accountable to the people whom you tell about your goals. You will feel pressure to achieve what you said you would do, and that can keep you on track rather than procrastinating instead.
Get Rid of Digital Distractions
Another great tip to eliminate procrastination is to turn off any digital interruptions. Log off of Facebook, turn off YouTube and close your email screen on your browser. Now you are more likely to maintain your focus and concentrate on the task at hand.
